About Eddie
Eddie Kidd OBE started his professional career as a stuntman at just 15 years old. After watching a film starring Evel Knievel at ‘Screen on the Green’ in his home town of Islington his dream of becoming the world’s greatest stuntman was born, a dream that quickly became reality.
By the time Eddie was 15 he had accomplished jumping 5 buses, being the first person to attempt this stunt in the UK. Shortly after, he achieved the Junior World Record, jumping 8 buses. Eddie travelled the world with his stunt show, inspiring audiences and gaining worldwide fame, renowned as the best in his craft.
Starring in the film ‘Riding High’ as Dave Munday in 1979, Eddie performed his famous 140ft jump. The stunt consisted of jumping across a viaduct in an Essex based derelict station and is still talked about today. Eddie Kidd became a household name in the 80’s. His good looks, charm and vivacious personality made him a popular choice for advertising.
His most famous campaign was his smouldering Levis 501 ad which found itself on the cover of every magazine. In 1993, he miraculously jumped over the Great Wall of China. A feat that no other stunt man has attempted since.
Eddie went on to stunt double in two James Bond films for both Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton. Then, working as Harrison Ford’s double in the famous
Hanover Street, jumping an 80 ft ravine with a dummy on his back. He also doubled for Val Kilmer in Top Secret.
In the same year, Eddie went head to head against Robbie Knievel, the son of his childhood hero during The Daredevil Dual in St Louis, Mississippi. Eddie took the World Championship after a massive 215 ft jump, holding the world record for jumping 19 single decker and 13 double decker buses.
Tragically, on the 11th of August, 1996, Eddie’s stunt career was cut short. During a stunt in Long Marston, Warwickshire, Kidd suffered a crash that left him with a brain injury and severe mobility issues. Until that day, Eddie had not broken so much as a fingernail. He would not give up however, and fought to learn how to talk again.
In the years since, Eddie has worked hard to become his best physically. In 2011, Eddie took on his biggest challenge to walk the London Marathon. With a specialised walker, Eddie completed the marathon in 50 days, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for children in the UK with cancer. Because of this, Eddie Kidd received a well deserved OBE in 2012, which was presented to him by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
Nowadays, Eddie lives a very happy and fulfilled life surrounded by his partner Billie, 3 children Candie, Jack and Callum, and his 3 Grandchildren.
